Let’s Talk About Pie

Pie is awesome. It’s a fact. People who dislike pie are basically wearing giant fake mustaches and putting on bad Cold War Russian accents, you’re sending the same message.

So let’s make some double crust pie even your grandmother would admit is made of win (win herein meaning berries).

First off, I make my pie crusts differently. I make them with oil (AUDIBLE GASP).

Pie Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • pinch of salt

Combine everything, mix as little as possible, divide into two, roll out on a floured surface, or between sheets of wax paper, put into a pie tin. Smirk.

Take 2nd pie crust and put it somewhere safe for a bit. You’ll use it later.

This makes enough for a double crust pie, a little too much for a lattice top, but hey, extra dough won’t kill you.

I’ve never made a pie crust with oil, but I’m going to try it this weekend. Thanks for the tips…and quips. 🙂
